Clooney’s father and mother, Nina, went on a double-date with their son and future daughter-in-law in February at the White House screening “Monuments Men,” Clooney’s movie.
Gorgeous George, 53, swept Oxford-educated Amal off her feet at the end of last year, 2014 after they met at a charity event. By April he had proposed and his fiancée, who is of Lebanese origin, was wearing an impressive seven-carat diamond reportedly worth £450,000 – in mid-May, on her ring finger.
In 2014 George surprised fans by announcing his engagement to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin after a seven-month courtship. In September of 2014, the couple hosted four days of show-stopping wedding celebrations in the romantic city of Venice and George relinquished his status as Hollywood’s most iconic bachelor.
Amal Alamuddin, 36, and George Clooney, 53, not only made their first red carpet premiere on September 7 at the Celebrity Fight Night in Italy Gala, but they also revealed the details about when they’ll say “I do!”
26 September, 2014, prior to the nuptials, a flotilla of vintage water taxis were seen driving George and his A-list guests to the venue. The actor, who looked dapper in Armani, couldn’t contain his excitement as he waved to crowds who stood alongside the canal, cheering him on in his last journey as a single man. Following the ceremony in the 450-year-old waterside venue, the wedding party was treated to champagne and canapés.
The celebration was expected to continue with a lavish lunch on Sunday and an official civil service ceremony on Monday.
27th September 2014, the wedding took place at the Aman Grand Canal, which guests had reached by boat. Walter Veltroni, the former mayor of Rome and one of Clooney’s good friends, officiated. At the reception, a five-course meal created by Riccardo de Pra was served, the menu consisted of both Italian and Lebanese options (nods to the event’s location and Alamuddin’s heritage, respectively), and Andrea Bocelli was scheduled to perform.
George revealed they always planned to marry in Italy as that is where the couple first met and it holds special memories for them.
The stunning 36-year-old bride wore a custom-made off-the-shoulder Oscar de la Renta French lace wedding dress with a veil This French lace gown was embroidered with diamante and pearls and featured a circular train, while the wide neckline scooped just off her shoulders while George, 53, chose his favourite designer, Giorgio Armani, to create his tuxedo.
Clooney and British human rights barrister Amal wed in front of approximately 100 guests – including family friends and famous faces such as Matt Damon and his wife Luciana, Cindy Crawford and her husband, George’s best man Rande Gerber, John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Bill Murray,
Guests were gifted with iPods holding specially chosen playlists by George and Amal. Both sets of parents were thrilled by the union, George’s parents Nick and Nina danced too at their wedding during the ceremony. Alamuddin’s little sister, Tala, was the maid of honor.
The party continued at the Cipriani with drinks and fireworks after the reception.
It was a starry night to remember for George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin’s guests, who left the wedding celebrations in the early hours of Sunday morning with beaming smiles on their faces.
The star-studded nuptials of the year had the likes of Bono, Matt Damon and Cindy Crawford all in attendance. One by one the couple’s friends were seen departing the Aman Canal Grande Hotel in Venice where they caught vintage water taxis back to their luxury accommodation. It is thought that the majority of guests are staying in the Hotel Cipriani – a short boat ride from St Mark’s Square in the city centre.
As the new Mr and Mrs Clooney made their first appearance as man and wife on Sunday, 28 SEPTEMBER 2014, there was a chance for celebrity fans to get the first glimpse of the special rings which sealed their love.
Shining brightly on Amal Alamuddin’s finger was her brand new wedding band, which appeared to be made of platinum. George also flashed his matching ring as he waved to crowds from the water taxi which was carrying the overjoyed newlyweds down Venice’s Grand Canal.
The couple were said to be heading to the luxurious Hotel Cipriani – where the majority of their A-list guests were staying – for a post-wedding lunch with their family and friends.
On August 2014, Dingdong made a second proposal again on the “MARIAN dance show”, giving Marian a Harry Winston engagement ring (very expensive luxury items with prices ranging from $5,000 to $500,000) while on his knees, looking lovingly straight at Marian who was starting to tear up.
As George and Amal, navigated their way on the blue waters, the couple were clearly besotted with each other. The lovebirds waved to fans but spent a large part of the trip embracing and gazing affectionately into each other’s eyes.
George and Amal married on Saturday 27 September with the actor’s spokesperson confirming that they wed in a “private ceremony”.
